Sixty Officers Complete Aviation Security Course
(JUBA) – The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) has celebrated the graduation of 60 newly trained airport security officers following an intensive five day training programme at Juba International Airport.
The initiative, led by SSCAA Director General John Woja Elinana, is part of a wider effort to enhance aviation safety, strengthen national security standards and align operations with international best practices.
During the graduation ceremony, senior officials urged the officers to maintain discipline, integrity and professionalism in their work. Security Manager of SSCAA stressed that the role was “not just routine” but required focus and an uncompromising approach to duty.
Deputy Manager of Juba International Airport, Eng. Gat Moety, reminded graduates that airport security is vital to the daily functioning of the airport and to the safety of all passengers. Director of Air Transport and Economic Regulations, Teshsin Okongo James, underlined the seriousness of the mission, calling their role “vital in shielding the airport from evolving threats.”
Director of Aviation Safety and Security Regulations, Capt. Paduol Wel Ater, warned against illegal activities, telling officers that they now represent the authority and must act with integrity.
Director General John Woja Elinana emphasised that safety and security remain top priorities for South Sudan’s aviation sector.
“With continued government support, our security team will protect aircraft, passengers and infrastructure. We are taking South Sudan’s aviation to the next level of innovation and professionalism,” he said.
Board Chairperson Michael Lopuke Lotyam described the training as part of the country’s mission to transform Juba International Airport into a facility meeting international standards. He said development in aviation must begin with strong management and skilled personnel.
The training focused on critical aspects of aviation security, including passenger and baggage screening, vehicle and personnel access control, patrolling of restricted areas and adherence to professional ethics. It was conducted in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Annex 17 and the National Civil Aviation Security Program.
To ensure uniformity and authority, graduates were issued official security uniforms. The programme highlighted teamwork, professionalism, and discipline as core values.
