(LAINYA) – The executive leadership of the Central Equatoria State Youth Union has arrived in Lainya County ahead of a planned youth association election scheduled to take place from Tuesday 22nd July to Wednesday 23rd July 2025.
The visiting delegation held a meeting with the office of the Lainya County Commissioner shortly after their arrival. During the briefing, they were informed that the county remains stable and peaceful, creating a conducive environment for the elections to proceed without disruption.
The youth union leadership expressed appreciation for the coordination efforts made by the local administration and confirmed they would be working closely with a preparatory committee that was appointed last week by the commissioner. This committee is tasked with overseeing the technical and logistical arrangements necessary to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election process.
According to union officials, the elections will provide an important opportunity for young people in Lainya to elect new representatives to lead the local youth association.
The Central Equatoria State Youth Union has stated that it is fully committed to strengthening youth involvement in leadership, governance and community decision making processes. Union leaders said they view the election in Lainya as a key moment for youth engagement at the grassroots level.
“Young people must be part of the change they want to see,” one official said. “This election gives the youth of Lainya County a chance to shape their future and contribute meaningfully to local development.”
The Youth Union is expected to provide technical oversight and guidance throughout the election process, while continuing to work hand in hand with local authorities to ensure transparency and accountability.
No funds have yet been publicly disclosed regarding the costs of running the election or associated activities. Expenditures are expected o include logistical arrangements such as transportation, security, venue hire and communication costs.
Local youth in Lainya have expressed optimism about the upcoming election, viewing it as a rare chance to elect leaders who can represent their concerns on issues such as education, job creation, peacebuilding and sports development.
The two day election is expected to draw interest from across Central Equatoria State, while its outcomes could influence similar youth processes in neighbouring counties.
