(YEI RIVER COUNTY) The South Sudan Law Society (SSLS), in partnership with South Sudan Civil Society organizations, has commenced a two-day conference on peace and governance in Yei River County, Central Equatoria State.
The conference, which began on Thursday, aims to gather citizens’ views and recommendations to inform the national peace and governance process, particularly in preparation for South Sudan’s anticipated peaceful political transition through elections. Similar engagements are also being conducted in Wau and Malakal.
Speaking during the opening session, the Facilitator of the South Sudan Law Society, Opio Moses Koruk, said the initiative seeks to strengthen civic space and promote grassroots participation in the country’s electoral and political transition process.
Participants at the conference shared their views on whether the scheduled December 2026 elections can realistically be conducted by the end of the year.
The South Sudan Law Society is a national non-governmental organization formed by South Sudanese lawyers. The organization works to promote human rights, peace, rule of law, and good governance across South Sudan.
