Mayor Swaka Promises Better Roads/Handout
(JUBA) – The Juba City Council has started a major road repair campaign to make the city’s roads better, safer and easier to use. The campaign also aims to improve cleanliness and access to public services such as hospitals and schools.
The launch took place in Hai Dar el Salaam and was led by Mayor Christopher Swaka and his three deputies. The project is part of the 100 day plan of Central Equatoria State Governor, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel.
Mayor Swaka said the goal is to improve road connections and help residents move around more easily.
“Roads connect our communities and help people reach hospitals and markets. We want to make Juba’s roads safer and more reliable for everyone,” he said.
He added that taking care of the roads should be a shared duty between the Government and the people.
“The Government is the people, and the people are the Government,” he said. “We ask everyone to protect and maintain these roads. They belong to the public and must serve everyone.”
The mayor warned residents against building illegally or blocking road spaces, saying such actions damage public infrastructure and make it hard for the city to grow.
The road repair works started in Hai Dar el Salaam and will later move to Custom, Atlabara, St. Kizito, Nyakuron and Rock City. When completed, the road linking St. Kizito and the National Security Headquarters will act as another main route connecting to the roads behind Parliament and Airport Road, helping to reduce traffic and make movement easier across Juba.
The Juba City Council has asked residents to be patient as the work goes on. The council said the project is part of the Government’s wider plan to improve public services, build better infrastructure and make Juba a cleaner and more accessible city.
