(JUBA COUNTY) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel has urged religious leaders and citizens to work together to promote peace, unity and security across Juba and the wider state.
He made the appeal on Sunday during a visit to the Arabic congregation of St. Kizito Catholic Parish in Munuki.
Mujung said his visit aimed to engage directly with worshippers and to share the State government’s top priorities, which he identified as peace, unity and security.
He explained that peace and stability were the cornerstones for development and better service delivery in Central Equatoria.
He told the congregation that the government’s objectives were closely linked to the Church’s core values of faith, hope and love.
“Some of the issues affecting our State include land grabbing, gang activities, suicide cases, and killings that continue to threaten our security,” the Governor said.
He called for joint efforts between the government, the Church and the public to address these challenges, describing the Church as a key partner in shaping moral values and guiding communities.
Mujung also recalled the Church’s historical contribution to South Sudan’s liberation struggles:
“The Church played a great role during the Anya Nya and SPLM struggles. I appeal to it once again to work with Government to ensure peace, security and unity.”
He encouraged church leaders to continue promoting reconciliation and forgiveness, particularly among holdout groups that have yet to join peace efforts:
“If holdout groups refuse to engage with the Government, the Church can help mediate and guide them towards peaceful solutions.”
The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to President Salva Kiir’s directive to foster unity among the people of Central Equatoria, saying unity was vital to sustain the independence and stability of South Sudan.
In his remarks, Fr. Martine Ochaya Lino, the Parish Priest of St. Kizito, welcomed the Governor and his delegation, thanking him for visiting the parish.
He called for the restoration of peace and assured the congregation of the Church’s readiness to continue working with the government for the good of the community.
Governor Mujung was accompanied by several senior officials including Hon. Francis Luwala, Secretary General of the State Government, Hon. Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, Commissioner of Juba County and Hon. Juma Stephen Lugga, Commissioner General of the Insurance Regulatory Authority.
