(JUBA) – Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel of Central Equatoria State has called on citizens to embrace unity, peace and security, saying that stability can only be achieved when the wider community takes collective responsibility.
The Governor delivered the message on Sunday while addressing the congregation at St. Peter Chapel Catholic Church in Gudele. The majority of worshippers at the service were members of the Azande community.
Mujung told the faithful that his leadership is committed to promoting peace, security and the well being of all people. He stressed that peace is not only the work of government but also the duty of families, parents and religious institutions.
He raised the issue of armed holdout groups still resisting government authority. While the government continues to engage, Mujung appealed to the church and parents to persuade their sons who are carrying weapons to lay them down and return home to rebuild society. He said unity and reconciliation are the only way to make sure that services reach the people.
“Effective delivery of basic services can only be realised if we are united and peaceful,” Mujung told the congregation.
The Governor also touched on internal security challenges, including recent reports of suicides. He urged security leaders and communities to cooperate to prevent such tragedies. He further appealed to parents to guide their children properly and protect them from the growing influence of negative groups, including gangs.
Mujung called on the Azande and other communities to rally behind their leaders, saying that without solidarity, it is difficult to defend the people or to build a functioning state.
“The time has come. Let us not waste it. Let us unite and fix what has not been fixed,” he said in his closing remarks.
He was accompanied to the service by State Minister of Cabinet Affairs Lupai Satimon, Minister of Peace Building Jacob Aligo, and Juba County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Ezbon.
