(LAINYA COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Lainya County, Hon. Robert John Lasu Morris, has announced the completion of the Lainya County Agricultural Cooperative Store, marking a new step in support of local farmers and agricultural development in the county.
The store was constructed by the organisation ACROSS in partnership with Christian Blind Mission, with funding from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. County officials said the project is intended to respond to ongoing challenges faced by farmers, including limited access to markets and shortages of essential farming supplies, which have affected food production in the area.
According to the commissioner, the cooperative store will provide farmers with a central place to sell their produce and to obtain basic agricultural inputs. This approach is expected to improve the flow of farm goods within the county and reduce losses caused by poor storage and limited market access.
Local authorities believe the store will help strengthen household incomes by making it easier for farmers to trade their produce locally. The initiative is also expected to contribute to wider economic activity in Lainya County, which relies heavily on small scale farming for food security and livelihoods.
Development partners involved in the project noted that cooperative systems can help farmers work together, improve bargaining power and encourage more consistent production. They added that the store will serve as a shared resource for the community and promote cooperation among farmers.
The county administration said details of the official opening ceremony will be communicated in the coming days. Residents have been encouraged to follow updates from the county authorities and local media.
According to the County Press Unit, the construction of the cooperative store aligns with broader efforts across South Sudan to support agriculture as a key pillar for recovery and economic growth, particularly in rural counties where farming remains the main source of income.
