Food Storage Facility in Gimunu
(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – A local humanitarian development partner, the Organization for Agriculture Opportunities (OFAO) South Sudan, has handed over two newly constructed food storage facilities to farmer groups in Ronyi and Gimuni bomas of Yei Town Payam in Yei River County.
Speaking to Access Radio on Tuesday, the organization’s Executive Director Hakim James, said the project aims to support farmers in reducing post-harvest losses, improving storage and strengthening food security particularly among smallholder farmers in local communities across Yei River County.
“For us at OFAO, we focused on improving storage facilities for smallholder farmers because we discovered that a lot of food was being wasted due to poor storage. In Yei, we constructed and handed over two storage facilities to address these challenges and to strengthen our support for farmers and agricultural projects in Yei River County.”
Moses Alison, a local resident and farmer in Gimunu area, expressed his appreciation for OFAO’s efforts in promoting food safety in the county.
“We are happy about this improved storage facility provided by OFAO. It will help us store our food produce and seeds. What we want as farmers in Yei are good roads, access to markets, seeds, tools, and stable security.”
The project, titled National Coalition on Food Security (NACOFS), is funded by the Norwegian Government through the Embassy of Norway in Juba is being implemented by a lead consortium partner Stromme Foundation (SF) in collaboration with other local partners operating in Yei.
