Some elders in Yei town
(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Elders in Yei Town Payam have backed plans to allocate more land for the establishment of Yei University and community development projects in the area.
The pledge was made during a meeting with Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo, where elders also raised concerns about education, social services, and local governance on Monday.
Community representative Taban Martin Samuel welcomed the proposed use of the UNMISS compound for the university, noting that further assessments will determine if additional land is needed.
Commissioner Malimbo reaffirmed the government’s commitment, saying the project will create jobs for local residents and boost development. He also urged leaders to seek scholarships for youth and announced the allocation of a bus to support elders’ activities.
The meeting ended with a joint commitment to strengthen collaboration in addressing key community priorities.
