(JUBA) – Members of the Kworijik-Luri community in Central Equatoria State have appealed to the government to address rising insecurity, land disputes and the presence of armed cattle herders in their area.
The community delegation including elders, chiefs, parliamentarians, women and youth representatives met on Thursday with the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel.
The group congratulated the Governor on his recent appointment by the President and presented him with concerns they said are affecting local residents.
Among the issues raised were widespread land grabbing, the growing presence of armed herders and persistent insecurity, which they said have displaced families and created a humanitarian situation.
Governor Mujung assured the delegation of his commitment to restoring peace, unity and security in the state. He emphasised the need for collective efforts between government institutions and local communities, saying such cooperation would help build stability and create space for development.
National parliamentarian Hon. Ladu Lukak spoke on behalf of the community to urge the deployment of security forces to the area. He said that restoring law and order would allow displaced residents to return home and resume farming activities.
“We have people displaced from Kworijik to Rokwe, and we request security deployment,” Lukak stated.
Executive Chief Galdino Bambo Joseph also pledged his support to the Governor. He said community elders are already working to encourage displaced residents to return, provided that their security is guaranteed.
“We are working with our elders to encourage our people to come back, and we call for the State government’s continued support,” Chief Bambo said.
