(YAMBIO COUNTY) – Western Equatoria State University will open in August, with the state government providing 200 free admission application forms to prospective students in an effort to improve access to higher education in South Sudan.
The free application forms will be available to eligible students after the Ministry of Higher Education approved the opening of the new university. The initiative is intended to help more young people in Western Equatoria State continue their education without the cost of application fees.
Western Equatoria State Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa said he had paid for 200 application forms so they could be issued free of charge.
“The Ministry of Higher Education has approved the opening of the university for the people of Western Equatoria State, and I have paid for 200 application forms to be issued free of charge. Come and collect and fill them,” the governor said.
The first intake of students will begin in August. Initial courses will include Agriculture, Forestry, Health Sciences, Education, and Information and Communication Technology.
State authorities said the programmes are intended to equip students with practical skills, including computer literacy, needed in today’s economy.
The university is expected to increase access to higher education for young people by allowing more students to study within Western Equatoria State instead of travelling elsewhere in South Sudan.
State education authorities are expected to announce further details in the coming days, including academic programmes, registration procedures and arrangements for the official opening ceremony.
Governor Rimbasa called on young people to remain in school, complete secondary education and take advantage of opportunities to continue to university.Discover more from Access Radio Yei News
