(YAMBIO, Western Equatoria State) – South Sudan’s border revenue operations are set for expansion as customs officials move to open new stations at six key crossing points. The plan aims to strengthen trade control and increase the collection of state income.
Assistant Commissioner of Customs for Western Equatoria State Col. Juma M. Adams announced the plan following a meeting with Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa on Monday. The new posts will be located at Gangura, Nabiapai, Sakure, Ezo, Tambura and Iba.
Col. Adams said the expansion is part of wider efforts to improve border protection and revenue collection. He noted that the meeting focused on his division’s core duties, including trade facilitation, border protection and cooperation with the state government.
Governor Rimbasa welcomed the initiative and offered full backing from his administration. He said the state government is committed to supporting customs work and ensuring taxes are managed with transparency.
Both sides agreed to strengthen the deployment of customs officers across Western Equatoria State. The move is expected to raise domestic revenue, which remains critical as South Sudan seeks to reduce dependence on external aid.
Improved collection at border points like Nadapal and Nimule has long been identified as a national priority, with Western Equatoria seen as a vital trade corridor.
