(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme has pledged support towards the rehabilitation of the Yei Health Science Institute after a visit to assess the condition of the facility and the challenges affecting its operation.
During his visit, Commissioner Taban met students and staff, encouraging them to remain focused on their studies and maintain high professional standards. He said the work of health trainees is vital because it directly saves lives and strengthens South Sudan’s healthcare system.
“Yei is producing health workers who serve across the country,” Commissioner Taban said. “Improving this institute will attract more young people to join health sciences and contribute to national development.”
He urged development partners and government agencies to assist in rehabilitating the institute’s infrastructure, including classrooms, hostels, and power supply.
He also announced that the county administration, hospital management and local partners have agreed to hold regular coordination meetings to improve service delivery in the health sector.
The Principal of the Yei Health Science Institute, Mr. Koul Ajok, expressed appreciation for the commissioner’s visit, saying it showed the county’s commitment to education and health. He noted that the institution faces several challenges, including lack of electricity, inadequate accommodation and limited learning resources.
“Today’s visit by the commissioner is an important step in drawing attention to our needs,” Ajok said. “With more support, we can train more health professionals who will serve Yei and other parts of South Sudan.”
The visit concluded with a promise from the commissioner’s office to work closely with relevant authorities and humanitarian partners to address the institute’s challenges and enhance training conditions for future healthcare workers.
