Over 1,000 Teachers in Wau Set to Receive Official IDs/Radio Miraya
(Wau) – The State Ministry of General Education in Western Bahr el Ghazal has announced that over 1,000 teachers across Wau, Jur River County, and Wau Municipality will soon be issued official identification cards.
The move is part of an ongoing effort to verify the presence and activity of education personnel in the region and improve the budgeting and payment system within the sector.
According to the ministry, the teachers who have already undergone screening will be the first to receive the new IDs.
The initiative aims to ensure only active and verified teachers remain on the payroll, which is expected to help reduce errors, eliminate ghost workers, and strengthen accountability in salary distribution.
Juma Suleman Ramadan, the Director General in the Ministry of General Education, urged teachers who have been absent from duty to return to their posts and actively resume teaching.
He stressed that physical presence and formal registration are necessary conditions for receiving monthly salaries.
“If you have not received your salary but are working, report to the Ministry or the responsible official so we can follow up with your school or county director,” Ramadan said.
The identification card rollout is expected to bring clarity to the state’s education workforce.
Western Bahr el Ghazal, like many parts of South Sudan, has struggled with teacher shortages, irregular salary payments, and weak education infrastructure.
