FoWE Moves to Revive Tore Health Centre

(TORE PAYAM, YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Friends of Wildlife and Environment, commonly known as FoWE, has launched a major assessment of Tore Primary Health Care Centre in Yei River County as part of plans to rehabilitate the facility and recruit qualified health workers.

A high-level delegation led by FoWE Executive Director Simon Yonama and Health Officer Akomi Innocent visited Tore Payam over the weekend. The team included a community representative from Tore based in Juba and a structural engineer tasked with assessing the condition of the health facility.

Simon Yonama said the organisation is finalising engineering designs and budgets and will soon advertise vacancies for professional health workers to staff the facility once renovations are completed.

The assessment focused on the state of ward buildings, water systems and medical storage facilities, while also identifying staffing needs required to fully restore health services in the area.

Speaking during the visit, Head Chief of Tore Payam, Dusman Njengo, welcomed the initiative and said the rehabilitation of the health centre would ease the burden on families who currently travel long distances to access medical care.

Another community leader Peter Butili Frajallah urged community members to support FoWE throughout the rehabilitation process to ensure health services are restored as quickly as possible.

FoWE Health Officer Akomi Innocent said the organisation is committed to rebuilding both the infrastructure and workforce needed to deliver quality healthcare.

“Bringing quality healthcare back to Tore Payam requires both sturdy walls and skilled hands. Our technical assessment ensures the rehabilitation meets proper medical standards, while we recruit qualified healthcare personnel to serve the community.”

The initiative is expected to improve access to healthcare services for thousands of residents in the remote community of Tore Payam.
