(MOROBO COUNTY) – Health authorities in Morobo County have launched a week long measles vaccination campaign in response to confirmed cases of the disease. The campaign was officially opened on Monday, 15 September 2025, at the county health department.
The exercise is targeting children between the ages of six months and five and a half years and will run for seven days. Officials say the campaign comes at a critical time, as recent laboratory tests confirmed three suspected cases of measles in the area.
The launch event was attended by representatives of non governmental organisations, local government officials, health workers, security officers and mothers from surrounding communities.
According to Paul, the county’s Expanded Programme on Immunisation Supervisor, the confirmed cases are alarming given the limited health infrastructure in Morobo. He said measles is a deadly infection and could cause a serious outbreak if left unchecked.
Speaking at the ceremony, Morobo County Executive Director, Ezbon Gale, stressed the urgency of vaccinating all eligible children. He explained that measles is highly contagious and can spread quickly if not addressed in time.
At the launch, more than 50 children received their first dose of the vaccine. Health officials urged parents and guardians to ensure all children in the target group are vaccinated within the campaign period.
According to the County Press of Morobo, the vaccination drive is a vital step in protecting children and containing the spread of measles in the county, where access to healthcare services remains limited.
