(CUPERTINO, US) – Apple Incorporated is preparing updated iPad Pro tablets and a redesigned entry level MacBook Pro for release in the first half of 2027, as the technology giant lines up a series of major product launches for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary year.
According to people familiar with the matter, the company is testing four new iPad Pro models set to be released in spring 2027. The new models will retain the current 11 inch and 13 inch display sizes, the sources said. The updates will focus mainly on internal improvements, including faster chips. Apple previously tested a vapour chamber cooling system for tablets to improve sustained performance and reduce overheating.
Apple is also preparing an updated entry level MacBook Pro under the codename K104 for the first half of next year. The 14 inch laptop will feature a new design consistent with what Apple is preparing for high end MacBooks with touch screens, which are expected to launch between the end of this year and the beginning of next year.
The company finished work months ago on an updated entry level MacBook Pro under the codename J804, which was scheduled for this year with the current design and a new base M6 chip. The entry level model was last updated in October 2025.
An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on the company’s product plans.
Apple also aims to introduce its first M7 processor as early as the first half of next year. It is targeting a rapid transition from the upcoming M6 generation, as it ramps up efforts to optimise its chips for more complex artificial intelligence workloads.
At the same time, the company is grappling with an extraordinary shortage of memory and semiconductors that has strained its supply chain, leading to potential changes in its current roadmap. Last week, the company raised prices on all Mac and iPad models.
If the new devices launch during or around the first half of 2027 as planned, they will join a range of other new Apple products scheduled for release during that period. This includes a second generation iPhone Air with an improved camera and battery, as well as an entry level iPhone 18.
Apple is increasingly using spring to launch a wide range of devices, as it seeks to spread revenue more evenly throughout the year. In March this year, the company released the iPhone 17e, MacBook Neo, updated monitors, new MacBook Airs, updated MacBook Pros, and new chips.
2027 is set to be one of Apple’s most hardware packed years, as the company also plans a new iPhone to mark the device’s 20th anniversary, a second generation foldable iPhone, its first smart glasses, and new smart home devices.
