(YEI) – A respected community leader and former Paramount Chief of Yei River County, Peter Sayid Morjan, has died at Yei Civil Hospital in Yei town. His family confirmed the death on Sunday evening.
Close relatives told Access Radio that Morjan had been suffering from health complications for several months. He passed away at approximately 5 pm at his residence in Hai Lebben residential area, Yei town. Funeral arrangements are still to be made public.
Peter Sayid Morjan served as the longest standing Paramount Chief of Yei River County. During his tenure, he also led the “C court,” a local body that presided over domestic and family disputes in the area.
Members of the community have begun gathering at his residence to pay respects and support the family during the period of mourning.
A section of the mourners said Morjan’s leadership and dedication to resolving community disputes made him a well known and respected figure in Yei and the surrounding areas.
County leaders are expected to issue further statements regarding the official funeral and memorial service.
