Former Lasu Payam Head Chief Paul Kuba Dies at 93

(LASU PAYAM / YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Former head chief of Lasu Payam, Paul Kuba, has died at the age of 93 after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed.

A close family member said Kuba passed away on Monday evening at around 9:30 p.m. at his ancestral home in Nyori Boma following health complications related to high blood pressure.

Speaking to Access Radio, Michael Amule, a younger brother of the late Kuba, said funeral arrangements are underway and he will be laid to rest in his home village.

Amule described his brother’s death as a significant loss not only to the family but also to the Nyori clan, the Lasu community and the wider population of Yei River County.

“As a chief, our brother was vocal in advocating for peace, the protection of vulnerable community members, human rights, the rule of law, and peaceful coexistence at the local level,” Amule said.

Kuba was a strong supporter of the SPLM liberation struggle and served as a community chief from 1991 until his retirement from active service in 2021 due to age-related health challenges.

He is remembered as a dedicated leader who contributed significantly to community development and conflict resolution in Lasu Payam.
