(YEI RIVER COUNTY)– At least 58 community members in Yei River County have been trained in savings and lending, financial management, governance and livelihood improvement through a capacity-building initiative organized by the Organization for Agricultural Opportunities (OFAO).
The five-day training brought together participants from Yei Town Boma, Jansuk, and Minyori Bomas, focusing on strengthening financial management skills and promoting sustainable economic practices at the grassroots level.
According to OFAO, the initiative aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge in savings and lending, financial governance, and group management, while also enhancing livelihood opportunities through the Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) programming.
“As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community resilience and economic empowerment, a five-day VSLA Plus Methodology Training was successfully conducted for 58 participants from seven Village Savings and Loan Association groups in Yei Town Payam,” the organization said in a statement.
The training adopted the VSLA Plus approach, which seeks to improve household resilience, promote financial inclusion, and expand sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.
OFAO emphasized that the program is part of broader efforts to build self-reliant communities by strengthening grassroots financial systems and supporting income-generating activities.
“We commend the dedication and active participation of all the VSLA members and stakeholders who made this training a success. Together, we are building stronger, more self-reliant communities for a sustainable future,” the statement added.
The initiative reflects growing efforts by development organizations to empower communities in Yei River County through financial literacy and inclusive economic programs.
