(KIGALI) – Ms. Ayaa Irene Lokang, Director of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS), has been recognised as one of Africa’s 100 Most Influential Women. She received the award during the 4th African Women Awards held on 8 November 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The award was presented at a red carpet ceremony where Ms. Lokang received a certificate and a memento, joining an elite group of African female leaders known as the “SHE ACHIEVERS NETWORK.”
The award honours women who have made a significant positive impact through their work, leadership and service to their communities.
Ms. Lokang has dedicated her career to supporting media development, promoting press freedom and empowering women in South Sudan. Through AMDISS, she has helped strengthen the country’s media sector by providing training, advocacy, and support to journalists across South Sudan.
The African Women Awards aim to identify and celebrate women across the continent who demonstrate leadership, vision, and commitment to social development. Winners are recognised not only for professional achievements but also for their influence in improving communities and society.
According to a statement from AMDISS, Ms. Lokang’s achievement is a source of pride for South Sudan and the media sector:
“It an indicator the growing presence of South Sudanese women on the international stage and serves as an inspiration for young women aiming to take leadership roles in journalism, civil society and public service”.
