South Sudan Health Leaders Meet ICRC Delegation/Handout
(JUBA) – The Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial, has met a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross in Juba to discuss key challenges facing healthcare services in South Sudan.
The team was led by Florence Gillette, who briefed the ministry on the organisation’s ongoing humanitarian activities in the country.
The meeting focused on three main areas raised by both sides. These included the protection of health facilities and health workers, stronger support for survivors of sexual violence and continued dialogue on improving surgical care in hospitals and referral centres.
Minister Sarah Cleto thanked the ICRC for its work in South Sudan, especially its support in mental health care and physical rehabilitation services.
She said the partnership remains important during a period when many health facilities struggle with limited resources and repeated disruptions caused by insecurity in some parts of the country.
The minister said it was important to ensure that health centres, staff and patients are protected. She also called for more awareness among communities on how to support health workers and safeguard medical facilities.
During the meeting, she introduced the incoming head of the ICRC in South Sudan and said the ministry looks forward to continued cooperation with the organisation.
Both sides agreed that stronger collaboration will help improve access to medical care, especially in areas affected by conflict and displacement.
No financial commitments or new project costs were publicly announced during the meeting.
