(JUBA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced it will begin holding weekly press briefings from 4 September 2025, following widespread reports claiming that South Sudan was considering hosting Palestinian refugees from Gaza.
The Ministry said the decision is aimed at strengthening transparency, improving coordination with the media and addressing public concerns over issues of foreign policy and national interest.
In a statement issued on 13 August 2025, the Ministry dismissed the reports as “unfounded” and confirmed that South Sudan has not held any discussions with Israel regarding the relocation or resettlement of Palestinians. It described the allegations as inaccurate and potentially damaging to the country’s image and diplomatic relations.
The Ministry warned that the circulation of misinformation risks misrepresenting South Sudan’s foreign policy and undermining domestic priorities. It urged journalists, commentators and media outlets to verify all information through authorised government channels before publication, especially on sensitive issues.
“The importance of checking with official sources cannot be overstated,” the statement read, stressing that unverified reporting could create unnecessary confusion among the public and international partners.
| Date of Statement | Subject of Clarification | Next Step Announced |
