(YEI) – The Pokula community in Yei Town Payam held a meeting on Saturday with Central Equatoria State Governor, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, to congratulate him on his recent appointment and to raise long standing concerns regarding public services in their area.
Led by Santino Baba Alfred, Chairperson of the Pokula Community, the delegation submitted a written memorandum outlining urgent development priorities. These included the construction of health centres, improved road infrastructure, the building of schools and strengthened security measures.
The community asked for immediate government action to address the decades long gap in basic services.

In their submission, the community also reminded the Governor of promises made during South Sudan’s liberation struggle, particularly by the late Dr John Garang.
They recalled that Dr Garang had pledged improved public service delivery for Pokula as recognition for the community’s contributions to the fight against the Khartoum regime. Among these were commitments to support traditional chiefs and promote local development.
Responding to the delegation, Governor Mujung welcomed their concerns and thanked the community for their support. He encouraged all citizens of Central Equatoria State, including Pokula residents, to prioritise reconciliation, unity, and peace in order to drive sustainable development in the state.
Hon. Marriam Aguli, the State Advisor for Gender, Child and Social Welfare, also attended the meeting and acknowledged the challenges outlined by the Pokula community, emphasising the government’s willingness to listen and respond to grassroots voices.
