(JUBA) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, on Wednesday attended the swearing in ceremony and inauguration of the new leadership of the South Sudan National Olympic Committee in Juba. The event took place at Radisson Blu Hotel and brought together senior government officials and sports leaders.
The Vice President of South Sudan and Chair of the Gender, Youth and Sports Cluster, H.E. Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, was the chief guest at the ceremony. She was joined by the national Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports and several other dignitaries.
In his remarks, Governor Mujung praised the outgoing president of the Olympic Committee, Hon. Juma Stephen Lugga, for his contribution to promoting Olympic values in the country. He congratulated the incoming president, Mr. Choul Laam, and his executive board on their election to lead the committee.
He also recognised the achievements of Mr. Luol Deng, President of the South Sudan Basketball Federation, and Mr. Francis Amin, newly elected head of the Football Federation, for raising the international profile of South Sudanese sports.
Mujung assured the gathering of his government’s commitment to supporting the growth of sports in Central Equatoria and across the nation. He reaffirmed his administration’s backing for athletes and promised that land allocation for Indo Sports facilities would be completed soon to encourage the development of young talent.
According to the state press unit and governor’s office, the inauguration was a new chapter for sports in South Sudan, with many participants calling for stronger investment in infrastructure, training and youth programmes to help the country’s athletes compete more effectively at regional and international levels.
