
(Beijing) – BMW has partnered with Alibaba to integrate advanced artificial intelligence into its vehicles for the Chinese market, aiming to enhance the driving experience with intelligent digital assistance.
BMW AG and Alibaba Group have announced a new collaboration to integrate Banma AI, an artificial intelligence system developed by Alibaba’s Qwen team, into future BMW models in China. This partnership highlights the growing importance of software in the automotive industry, especially in the competitive Chinese electric vehicle market.
The introduction of AI-driven features has become a key factor in the success of electric vehicles. Chinese automakers such as BYD have surged ahead of European brands, forcing companies like BMW, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz to seek technological partnerships to remain competitive. Banma AI will allow BMW to offer an intelligent personal assistant, capable of providing real-time recommendations for parking, restaurants, and traffic conditions.
Alibaba has already integrated its AI model into vehicles produced by Chinese brands such as Xpeng, Zeekr, and Leapmotor. The company has also made significant investments in artificial intelligence, committing 380 billion yuan ($52 billion) over the next three years to enhance AI infrastructure, including data processing centers. Alibaba’s AI technology will also be incorporated into Apple’s iPhone in China in the coming months.
