Radio Miraya Set to Resume in Yei River County

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Efforts are underway to restore Radio Miraya FM in Yei, aiming to improve access to reliable public information for residents after the station went off air.

Technicians from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan have been deployed to repair and restart the station, which has served as a key source of news and updates for the local community. The interruption followed the mission’s withdrawal from its base in the county.

Local officials say the return of the radio service will help residents receive timely and accurate information, especially in an area where access to communication channels is limited.

Authorities also used the visit to highlight wider needs in the county, including support for justice and policing services. Requests were made for the rehabilitation of the judiciary office and several police stations to strengthen law and order.

UNMISS representatives said restoring access to information remains part of their broader work to support peace and stability. They confirmed that proposals for building a judiciary office in Yei and a police station in Mugwo have been submitted and are awaiting approval.

Despite relocating its base, the mission continues to carry out patrols across Yei River County to maintain security and reassure communities.

Officials from both sides said continued cooperation is needed to address service gaps and improve governance in the area.
