(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Radio Miraya broadcasts have resumed in Yei River County after a prolonged outage linked to the closure of a United Nations base in the area, restoring a major source of public information for local communities.
County authorities said the transmitter is now fully operational, allowing residents to once again access one of the most trusted radio services in South Sudan, especially in areas with limited alternative media.
The interruption followed the shutdown of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan base, which had supported transmission in the county.
A statement from the County Press said a joint technical team from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan and Radio Miraya travelled to Yei and completed repair work within two days, as earlier planned.
The return of the service comes after days of concern among residents, who had reported difficulties accessing reliable news and public information during the outage.
Local authorities said the restoration improves access to timely information and supports communication across communities in the county, where radio remains a primary source of news and public messaging.
The county commissioner had earlier indicated that efforts were under way to restore the service before travelling to Juba for a national health campaign event linked to malaria prevention.
Radio Miraya is widely used across South Sudan for news, public service announcements and community updates, particularly in remote areas.
