(MOROBO COUNTY) – Cattle herders who had settled in Morobo County since last year have vacated the area, authorities confirmed last week.
Their departure follows the implementation of a directive issued by the county commissioner about two weeks ago, ordering the herders to leave peacefully. The order also instructed South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and local residents to ensure the safe and orderly movement of the herders out of the county.
The directive is in line with a broader presidential order requiring cattle herders to return to their areas of origin, allowing local farmers to resume agricultural activities.
SSPDF commander Col. William Deng Chol oversaw the enforcement of the commissioner’s directive, facilitating the peaceful exit of cattle camp groups from Panyume Payam in Morobo County.
According to Col. Deng, the herders have since dispersed with some moving toward Dongoro in Lainya County, while others headed to Kajo-keji County.
Morobo County Commissioner Joseph Mawa commended the SSPDF for effectively carrying out the directive and expressed appreciation to cattle camp leaders for complying with the order.
