(JUBA COUNTY) – Calm has been restored in Mirikiyo Boma of Rokon Payam following a security incident reported on 25 January 2026, according to the Office of the Commissioner of Juba County.
Local authorities said the situation stabilised after a site visit led by County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Ezbon and an accompanying delegation. The visit aimed to assess the situation on the ground and reassure residents following the disturbance.
The delegation included State Member of Parliament Joyce Hadia Lino, the Director of Rokon Payam David Roja Michael and Brigade Commander Brigadier General Makol Bol Madut.
During the visit, officials met affected residents, listened to their concerns and assured them of their safety. They reaffirmed the government commitment to restoring peace, maintaining security and addressing community concerns.
According to the county administration, the incident involved cattle herders who looted property and burned two houses. One civilian was shot and injured, while four others were beaten and sustained injuries. One woman was also assaulted. An unestimated number of goats were taken, prompting many residents to flee to Rokon Centre out of fear and panic.
Authorities said the incident was reportedly linked to the arrest of four cows accused of destroying cassava crops in the area. No deaths were reported.
Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, together with the state member of parliament and the director of Rokon Payam, condemned the incident and described it as a serious breach of the law and public order.
Joyce Hadia Lino called for calm and accountability, stressing the need to protect civilians and their property. She emphasised the importance of peaceful coexistence and respect for the law in resolving local disputes.
David Roja Michael said local authorities would continue to work closely with security forces to ensure stability. He pledged support for affected families and said measures would be put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, continue with their normal activities and avoid taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue. The Juba County administration said it would follow up the matter and ensure justice for all those affected.
