(Kajo-Keji) – Authorities in Kajo-Keji County in Central Equatoria State have successfully recovered 45 cattle that were stolen during a raid last month.
The livestock belonged to local residents and had been rustled by an unidentified group of raiders, according to the county commissioner.
Commissioner Wani Jackson confirmed the recovery last week and stated that the process of identifying and returning the cattle to their rightful owners is now underway.
The value of the recovered livestock was not disclosed.
The commissioner commended local security forces, particularly the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), for their quick and coordinated response in recovering the animals. He praised their role in maintaining law and order in the area.
“The recovery was done by our SSPDF forces and we are in the process of handing them to the right owners,” said the Commissione.
“Kajo-Keji is now peaceful because our security organs have been working hard to maintain civilian safety and protection of their properties.”
He also used the opportunity to encourage the local population to continue upholding peace and to turn their focus toward agricultural activities, which are vital for food security and economic stability in the region.
Peter Mule, a resident of the Kangapo area, expressed his gratitude to the local government for acting swiftly to retrieve the raided livestock.
“We are happy because the commissioner is doing his best in maintaining security, protection of civilians and their properties,” Mule said.
Livestock raiding is a persistent issue in parts of South Sudan, often affecting rural communities and undermining local economies.
