(JUBA) – The Bank of South Sudan has urged the media to play a stronger role in helping the public understand new financial policies and digital services.
The appeal was made during an interactive session held in Juba on Monday, bringing together editors, reporters, commercial bank representatives and telecom companies.
The meeting was organised by the Central Bank’s Communication and Public Relations Department.
Officials explained that policies such as the planned Interbank Payment Settlement System and the expansion of digital banking services require clear public communication to gain trust and usage.
Participants were also briefed on the Strengthening South Sudan’s Financial Sector project, which is funded by the World Bank. The project aims to improve payment systems, support digital services and make banks more accessible to citizens, especially in areas without physical branches.
Journalists at the event said many financial reports are poorly understood by the public due to limited access to technical explanations. They called on the Central Bank to conduct regular training workshops to help reporters cover financial issues more accurately.
The meeting was held under the theme “Partnering with Media for Financial Transparency and Digital Progress.” It was attended by senior officials from the Bank of South Sudan, along with representatives from commercial banks and mobile operators.
