(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – A large consignment of medicines has arrived in Terekeka County under the Health Sector Transformation Project, bringing relief to local health facilities that have struggled with supply shortages.
The shipment that arrived in late September was coordinated by the Ministry of Health with support from UNICEF, the World Health Organization and several partner organisations. The supplies will be managed by the County Health Department and distributed across health centres in Lot 3 of Central Equatoria.
Officials said the delivery marks a clear sign of continued cooperation between the government and international partners to improve access to treatment in rural communities.
The Health Sector Transformation Project was launched in July 2024. It is a three year programme led by the Ministry of Health and backed by a World Bank trust fund and a grant from the International Development Association. UNICEF and WHO are supporting implementation.
The initiative aims to support eight hundred and sixteen health facilities across South Sudan by increasing access to basic treatment and nutrition services and strengthening the wider health system.
The cost of the consignment was not disclosed.

Local health workers say the delivery will help clinics respond to common illnesses such as malaria, respiratory infections and diarrhoea, which remain leading causes of illness in the area.
Residents have welcomed the move, but community leaders called for continued monitoring to ensure supplies reach the intended facilities and are not exhausted too quickly.
The Ministry of Health says further deliveries are planned as part of what it describes as an effort to ensure every county has access to basic care.
