Bank of South Sudan Begins Work Under New Governor/CREDITS: BoSS Portal
(JUBA) – The new Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Yeni Samuel Costa, has received many congratulatory messages from government officials and members of the public following his first full day in office on Monday.
The welcoming messages came as officials marked the leadership change at the central bank. Former Governor Addis Ababa Othow was among the first to extend his best wishes.
He also held a brief discussion with Mr Costa to outline key programmes already under way and areas that remain a priority for the Bank.
Officials said the handover focused on policy continuity, ongoing reform efforts and the strengthening of financial management systems.
Supporters noted that the change in leadership comes at a time when the central bank continues to work on improving confidence in the market and stabilising the South Sudanese Pound.
There were no figures or budget items mentioned in the statement. However, the central bank is widely expected to maintain its current focus on strengthening foreign reserves, improving payment systems and supporting measures aimed at reducing price pressure.
At present, $1 trades at about SSP 7,100 (Seven thousand one hundred South Sudanese Pounds) on the parallel market.
Citizens who shared messages on social platforms expressed hope that the new leadership will help guide the economy through continued reforms. Many said they expect clear communication on monetary plans and steps to support stability.
More statements from government officials are expected in the coming days as Mr Costa settles into his role.
