(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Some residents of Yei River County have welcomed the appointment of the new caretaker County Commissioner, Emmanuel Taban Seme, and are calling on him to prioritise security, service delivery and economic empowerment.
Commissioner Seme officially assumed office on Friday. His appointment follows a directive from the Caretaker Governor of Central Equatoria State, General Augustino Jadalla, who urged newly appointed county commissioners in the state to focus on peace, security, unity and improved service delivery ahead of the December elections.
Speaking to Access Radio over the weekend, residents of Yei town expressed hope that the new commissioner would address critical challenges facing the community, including poor roads, limited healthcare services and insecurity along major roads.
One resident appealed for women’s economic empowerment programmes, saying such initiatives would help improve the livelihoods of women across the county.
Farmers and traders also called for stronger security measures, noting that fears of road ambushes and abductions continue to affect movement and economic activities. They further urged the local authorities to improve health services and rehabilitate roads connecting communities.
Women interviewed by Access Radio highlighted the need for better maternal health services and improved road infrastructure, saying both are essential for the wellbeing of women and children.
Residents say they are hopeful that the new county leadership will respond to their concerns and deliver tangible improvements in the lives of local people.
