(JUBA) – The 17th edition of “Sip and Shop” took place recently in Juba, drawing women entrepreneurs, creatives and community supporters together in a celebration of resilience and business innovation.
The event, widely seen as a platform for empowering women in business, attracted strong participation from local vendors, small scale traders and female owned enterprises.
Organised under the theme of unity, growth and entrepreneurship, the event served as a space where women could market their products, exchange ideas and build networks.
Attendees praised the atmosphere of encouragement and community spirit that defined the occasion. There was a vibrant showcase of fashion, food, handmade crafts, beauty products, and creative designs, all developed by women led businesses in South Sudan.
MTN South Sudan, a key supporter of the initiative, described the event as a reflection of what community and collaboration mean in practice.
In a public message, the company highlighted how events like “Sip and Shop” strengthen the economic role of women and help grow the local private sector.
“It was a celebration of resilience, entrepreneurship and unity. We were proud to be part of it,” MTN stated.
Over the years, “Sip and Shop” has grown into one of the leading events in South Sudan promoting female entrepreneurship. The 17th edition stood out for its increased participation and visibility, offering a platform for women who are often excluded from formal business forums.
Participants also used the event to call for continued support from both the private sector and government institutions to reduce challenges facing women entrepreneurs, such as lack of access to finance, limited digital tools and reduced visibility in national economic policies.
The organisers urged South Sudanese citizens and diaspora communities to support such platforms to grow local businesses. The event concluded with optimism, as many vendors reported strong interest in their products and increased social media engagement.
