Stop Promoting tribal genocide among Dinka and Nuer
A Call for Unity and Understanding in Jonglei State:
In light of the ongoing conflict in Jonglei State, it is crucial that we articulate the nature of this struggle with clarity and precision. The current violence is not a conflict between the Dinka and Nuer tribes, but rather a confrontation involving the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO), and the White Army.
We must be vigilant in our language and actions, ensuring that we do not intentionally fuel divisions or promote narratives that could lead to genocide or further animosity between these two great tribes of South Sudan. It is important that we recognize the complexities of this situation and resist the temptation to frame it as a tribal conflict creating a permanent conflict among the two tribes for generations to come.
As leaders and members of our communities, and above all religious leaders we have a responsibility to foster dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation. Let us work together to promote peace and unity, transcending tribal affiliations and focusing on the shared humanity that binds us all.
In solidarity,
