(JUBA) – A fire broke out at Jebel Market in Juba on the evening of Sunday 6 July 2025, destroying at least five shops and causing financial losses amounting to millions of South Sudanese Pounds (SSP), according to eyewitnesses.
While no injuries were reported, traders have been left reeling from the destruction of their businesses and merchandise.
The blaze reportedly began around 6:00 p.m, quickly spreading through a section of the market as thick black smoke rose over the Jebel neighbourhood.
Witnesses say the fire sparked panic among market goers and traders, with people rushing to save what little they could before the flames consumed the structures.
The exact cause of the fire remains unclear. A formal investigation has not yet been announced by the authorities.
