Subject: Immediate Action Required to Address Inhumane Killings and Violence in Yei
Dear President and Governor,
I write to you with deep concern and a heavy heart regarding the alarming rise in violence and inhumane killings occurring in Yei, particularly in the Goja area and surrounding communities. These recent events have not only instilled fear among the residents but have also threatened the very fabric of our society.
On 30 June, armed groups brazenly attacked the Goja community, robbing innocent civilians and leaving them traumatised. This incident is not an isolated one. it reflects a growing trend of lawlessness and impunity that must be urgently addressed.
Furthermore, the tragic killing of a 34 year old businessman in Kanja Lotopiyo on 1 July serves as a stark reminder of the dangers facing our youth and community members. Such acts of violence are unacceptable and must not go unpunished.
In addition, today we mourn the loss of a national soldier, a two star officer, highlighting that no one is safe, neither civilians nor those sworn to protect them.
These events underscore the critical need for your leadership and decisive action. The people of Yei are calling for:
Immediate Security Reinforcement
We urge the government to deploy additional security personnel to restore peace and protect the community from further attacks by armed groups.
Investigation and Accountability
A thorough investigation into these violent incidents must be initiated. Those responsible for these heinous acts must be identified and brought to justice to prevent further occurrences.
Community Engagement
It is essential to engage with local leaders and community members to understand their concerns and to develop a collaborative approach to enhance security and stability in the region.
Support for Victims
Implement measures to support the victims of these attacks, including financial aid, counselling, and rehabilitation programmes to help them recover from trauma.
As leaders of our great nation, it is your duty to protect and serve the people. The escalating violence in Yei cannot be overlooked any longer. it demands your immediate attention and response. The community is looking to you for hope and reassurance that their safety remains a priority.
In conclusion, let us work together to restore peace and security in Yei. The people of South Sudan deserve to live without fear and to pursue their lives without the constant threat of violence hanging over them.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your prompt response and action.
