(YAMBIO, WESTERN EQUATORIA STATE) – Western Equatoria State plans to recruit 2,500 police officers from its 10 counties to strengthen security and maintain peace, according to Caretaker Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa.
The governor said the initial recruitment target of 100 officers per county had been increased to meet the new figure.
Recruits from the western counties of Yambio, Nzara, Ezo, Tambura and Nagero will be trained in Yambio.
Those from Ibba, Maridi, Mvolo, Mundri East and Mundri West will undergo training in Maridi County.
The governor directed county commissioners to identify and register recruits and work closely with police authorities to facilitate the process.
He also announced plans to establish a committee to oversee the recruitment and training exercise.
Badagbu said trainers had already been deployed to the Maridi training centre.
Food supplies were available in Yambio, with additional supplies being delivered to support the exercise.
He also called for police officers to be assigned to the residences of local chiefs to strengthen community security and help prevent crime.
