(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – Community leaders in Terekeka used a church gathering to urge residents to prepare for the cultivation season, promote unity and address local security concerns.
The message was delivered during celebrations of the Feast of St Joseph at Lojora Centre on Thursday, where local officials and church leaders gathered with residents.
Speakers called on communities to prioritise farming as a way to reduce hunger and improve livelihoods across the county.
Residents were encouraged to work together peacefully and avoid divisions, with emphasis placed on maintaining stability as the planting season approaches. The gathering was presented as a sign of improved cooperation, with calls for continued unity in community activities.
Concerns over crime were also raised, particularly theft. Authorities warned that those involved in criminal activity would face justice, while urging communities to support efforts to prevent wrongdoing and protect public order.
Alcohol abuse among young people was highlighted as another challenge. Community members, including youth leaders and chiefs, were urged to take responsibility in addressing the issue and to report cases that could affect safety and social cohesion.
Church leaders were praised for their role in promoting peace and development in the area. Officials noted that cooperation between faith institutions and local authorities remains important in strengthening community structures and encouraging positive social values.
The event also served as a platform to call for an end to violence and to reinforce messages of peace, security and development across Terekeka County.
