(Yei) – A three day training workshop focused on Public Finance Management (PFM) for education officials in Yei River County has officially concluded. Organized by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, the training was part of an ongoing effort to improve the oversight, transparency, and accountability of public funds allocated to education services.
The event brought together members of the County Education Transfers Monitoring Committee, local government personnel, and Payam Education Supervisors. Over the course of the training, participants engaged in discussions and practical sessions designed to equip them with the necessary knowledge and tools to ensure effective management of education finances at the local level.
Yei River County Commissioner, Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, addressed the participants during the closing ceremony. He urged them to implement what they had learned in their respective duties, emphasizing the critical role that sound financial practices play in delivering quality education services.
Director for the Department of Education, Mss. Juan Margaret Lumora, also spoke at the event. She stressed that responsible financial management is essential to building public trust and ensuring that resources reach schools and learners as intended.
While no specific monetary figures were disclosed during the training, the initiative highlights the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to improving local capacities in managing public funds. By equipping local education officials with financial oversight skills, the Ministry seeks to reduce inefficiencies and support long-term educational development in the region.
The training also reinforces broader goals of good governance, particularly in areas recovering from conflict and institutional challenges. In a region where the responsible use of public resources is vital for rebuilding systems, such capacity-building efforts represent a meaningful step toward more accountable and transparent administration.
Local observers and civil society actors in Yei have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a necessary measure to improve service delivery and address concerns about financial mismanagement in the education sector.
According to officials, more workshops of this nature are expected to be rolled out across other counties in the coming months, with the aim of standardizing financial practices and reinforcing fiscal discipline in educational institutions nationwide.
