(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Emmanuel Christian University students cast ballots on Saturday to elect their new Guild Cabinet, bringing a day of democratic activity to the Kinji campus in Yei.
The vote took place on 27 June 2026 at the ECASS School compound. Students and staff gathered to choose a 24-member student government that will serve during the 2026/27 academic year. Polling began with voter registration at 8:30 AM and ended with the formal declaration of results later in the day.
Two candidates contested the Guild Presidency. Chol James Cingoth and Mayen Makorou Magang appeared on the presidential ballot.
The Minister of Information race attracted three contenders. Nehemiah Taban Abui, James Dirima Onesimo and Kennedy Bingo Ezibon all sought the post responsible for student communications.
In total, positions on the ballot covered the presidency, vice presidency and 11 ministerial portfolios, each with a deputy. The ministries include finance, information, health, security, culture, home affairs, power, justice, religious affairs and the environment.
The ECU Electoral Commission structured the day to include a campaign session and a question and answer period before voting commenced. Counting followed immediately after the close of polls, with results announced on site.
The commission had called for a peaceful and informed process, describing the election as a celebration of democracy and unity.
