(JUBA) – The British Embassy in South Sudan has officially opened the application window for the 2026 to 2027 Chevening Scholarships, offering fully funded opportunities for South Sudanese nationals to pursue one year Master’s degrees at universities across the United Kingdom.
The announcement was made on the morning of 8 August 2025 during a live broadcast on Urban FM in Juba. British Ambassador David Ashley was joined by current Chevening scholar Adeng Malual to introduce the scholarship and encourage eligible candidates from South Sudan to apply.
Chevening Scholarships are funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). They are designed to support individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to making a positive contribution to their home countries.
Applications are open to professionals, graduates, and aspiring leaders who meet the eligibility criteria and are interested in studying in the UK for one academic year. All tuition fees, living expenses, visa costs and return flights will be covered under the scheme.
Adeng Malual, who is currently studying in the UK under the Chevening programme, shared her experience with listeners during the broadcast. She encouraged South Sudanese graduates to take advantage of the opportunity and highlighted how the programme has expanded her academic and professional horizons.
Ambassador Ashley described Chevening as “a life changing opportunity” and stressed the importance of education in building future leadership for South Sudan.
“We are looking for individuals who can bring back skills, networks, and knowledge to contribute to the development of South Sudan,” he said.
The Chevening programme has supported several South Sudanese scholars in the past, many of whom have gone on to contribute to government, civil society, academia and other sectors in South Sudan and the region.
Applicants are encouraged to choose from a wide range of Master’s degree programmes offered at leading universities across the UK, covering fields such as public policy, law, health, agriculture, education, economics and peacebuilding.
The deadline for submitting applications is 7 October 2025. All applications must be submitted online through the official Chevening website.
