(JUBA) – The Embassy of Japan in South Sudan has announced that applications are now open for the MEXT Scholarship Programme for Teacher Training Students. This programme provides South Sudanese teachers with the opportunity to undertake professional training at a university in Japan.
The MEXT Scholarship for Teacher Training is designed for professional development and does not lead to an academic degree. It is aimed at improving teaching skills and educational practices among South Sudanese educators.
Applications should be submitted to the Embassy of Japan in South Sudan no later than 10 February 2026. All required forms, including the application form, certificate of health, and a recommendation letter, must be submitted to the embassy. Candidates are advised not to send any documents directly to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan.
Recruitment for the programme, which starts in October 2026, is carried out by Japanese embassies between December of the previous year and February. The first screening is conducted between January and February by the embassy or consulate general in each country. Application procedures and schedules may vary depending on the applicant’s nationality, so applicants should contact the Japanese Embassy in Juba for further details.
Applicants are encouraged to carefully read the Application Guidelines to ensure that all required documents are correctly prepared. The forms may be completed by hand, typed, or printed using software applications.
