(JUBA) – The Minister of General Education and Instructions, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, has confirmed that the 2024 Senior Four examination results will finally be released on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, ending more than seven months of waiting for students and families across South Sudan.
Minister Kuyok made the announcement while briefing Vice President Josephine Lagu Yanga in Juba on Tuesday. He was accompanied by his deputy, Martin Tako, and the Secretary General of the National Examination Council, Simon Nyok. The minister explained that the results had already been submitted to President Salva Kiir, who formally approved their release.
“The results will be released tomorrow morning, and candidates across the country will be able to access them,” Minister Kuyok said after the meeting.
The release comes after repeated delays caused by financial difficulties within government institutions. Earlier, the Examination Council had revealed that over 1,000 exam markers were still unpaid even after completing the marking process.
A financial request of 280 million South Sudanese Pounds, equivalent to about 60,870 US Dollars at the current exchange rate of 4,600 SSP to 1 USD (August 2025), had been made to the Bank of South Sudan to cover final expenses before the results could be announced.
The delay, which lasted since December 2024 when more than 50,000 candidates sat the examinations at 319 centres nationwide, caused widespread frustration among students and their families. Many had expected the results to be released by July 2025, but the financial crisis pushed the date further.
Officials acknowledged that the prolonged delay had created serious concerns. The Secretary General of the Examination Council, Simon Nyok, had earlier apologised to candidates and parents, admitting that the liquidity crisis was the main reason for the late release.
He also suggested that government policymakers consider adjusting examination fees so that future exams could finance themselves and results could be released faster.
At Tuesday’s briefing, education officials also discussed wider challenges facing the sector. Key issues raised included improving teacher training in science subjects and increasing support for girls’ education by expanding boarding secondary schools. Minister Kuyok described the Vice President’s contribution as valuable, pointing to her background as an educationist and her active role in promoting reforms.
The release of the results is expected to bring relief to thousands of students whose future studies depend on them. Parents, teachers and education experts have welcomed the confirmation.
