(JUBA COUNTY) – South Sudan’s Ministry of General Education has once again pushed forward the release of the 2024 Senior Four national examination results, now promising they will be made public “within the next two weeks.” This new projection, announced on 6 August 2025, contradicts earlier official commitments that had assured the results would be released by the end of July.
The delay has already sparked frustration among students, parents and educators across the country, many of whom have been waiting since December 2024, when over 50,000 candidates sat for their exams at 319 centres nationwide.
Education Minister Dr Kuyok Abol Kuyok announced the latest revised timeline following a briefing with Vice President Josephine Lagu Yanga, who chairs the government’s Service Cluster. During the meeting, Dr Kuyok assured the Vice President that financial resources to finalise the examination process had now been secured in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of South Sudan.
However, this statement contradicts multiple previous assurances by the Ministry and the National Examination Council.
Timeline of Missed Deadlines
| Date | Statement/Expectation |
|---|---|
| December 2024 | Over 50,000 students complete Senior Four examinations |
| 25 June 2025 | Education Ministry announces that marking will begin the following week |
| 21 July 2025 | National Examination Council says results will be released by end of July |
| 6 August 2025 | Minister Kuyok announces results will be released within two weeks |
In his earlier statements, Simon Nyok, Secretary General of the National Examination Council had expressed optimism that the funds would be released soon. He also suggested that future examinations might be self-financed through adjusted fees, citing strong parental willingness to pay for faster and more reliable services.
Vice President Josephine Lagu Yanga stressed the need for uninterrupted education services and urged the Ministry to avoid further disruptions.
The Ministry’s pledge to release the results by mid-August remains the latest in a growing list of promises. Whether it will be fulfilled remains uncertain.
