(JUBA) – The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has announced it collected 100 billion South Sudanese Pounds (SSP), approximately $21.7 million USD, over a two week period. The figure was revealed during a meeting of the Electronic Service (E-Service) Board of Directors held on Friday, 18 July 2025, in Juba.
The Deputy Chairperson of the E-Service Board, Engineer Tejwok Simon Ajak, confirmed the figure during the first formal meeting of the board since 2024. He noted that revenue collections could have been even higher if certain government institutions had cooperated more fully with the E-Service digital systems.
Engineer Tejwok named the Civil Aviation Authority among agencies that are still resisting integration into the national electronic revenue system. He stressed that such resistance undermines transparency and limits the efficiency of national revenue mobilisation.
He further revealed that E-Service began aerial mapping of Juba city on Friday morning. The mapping project aims to support the creation of a digital land registry to help curb illegal land grabbing and support better delivery of services, particularly in sectors such as postal and communication infrastructure.
Digital land registration is expected to simplify property documentation, support urban planning, and boost investor confidence in the capital. The project is part of a broader push to modernise government systems and reduce revenue leakages by promoting electronic governance.
The NRA’s announcement marks a significant development for South Sudan’s fragile economy, which continues to rely heavily on oil revenues and external support. Officials say enhancing non-oil revenue collection through digital tools is vital for economic stability and development.
In July 2025, 100 billion SSP is equal to about $21.7 million USD at the official exchange rate of SSP 4,600 per USD. The amount represents one of the strongest short-term revenue performances by the NRA in recent years, according to available data.
