(JUBA) – South Sudan’s revenue authority has set a target to collect 160 billion South Sudanese Pounds per month, equivalent to about 28.1 million US dollars, as part of efforts to boost public finances and improve collection systems.
The target was announced during a senior management meeting of the South Sudan Revenue Authority in Juba, where officials outlined priorities to strengthen revenue mobilisation, improve accountability and expand digital systems across the country.
Officials said the monthly goal of 160 billion SSP about 28.1 million US dollars will apply over the remaining four months of the 2025 to 2026 financial year. They added that 60 percent of the revenue is expected to come from domestic taxes, while 40 percent will be generated through customs.
The meeting focused on improving efficiency in tax collection and ensuring better coordination across departments. Authorities said each division has been directed to set clear targets and strengthen internal performance to meet the overall goal.
Digital reform was identified as a key priority, with plans to expand electronic revenue systems to reduce manual processes and improve transparency. Officials expressed concern that current digital systems are mainly limited to parts of Central Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria, leaving other regions without access.
Plans are now in place to roll out electronic customs systems in several locations, including Gok Machar, Majokyinthiou, Renk, Wunrok, Raja and Yambio, as part of the first phase of expansion.
Officials said improving digital systems is expected to reduce human interference, increase efficiency and strengthen accountability in revenue collection across South Sudan.
The authority also called for better management of public funds, stressing that revenue collected should be used for the benefit of citizens and to support national development.
Senior officials pledged support for the reform agenda and said staff will be expected to work closely with leadership to improve performance and deliver results.
