(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Children under the age of 18 are now barred from entering all clubs, discos and sports clubs across Yei River County, under a new local order that took effect on 2 July 2026.
Local Order No. 7/2026 was issued to protect school going children from dropping out of school, to reduce gang related activities and to curb the abuse of alcohol, drugs and other harmful substances. The order also targets criminal activities and immoral behaviour linked to entertainment venues.
Owners of clubs, discos and sports clubs who allow children onto their premises will face a fine of not less than 1,000,000 South Sudanese Pounds (approximately 154 US Dollars) or imprisonment for up to three months. Their operating licence may also be withdrawn.
Children found in these venues in violation of the order will face legal action, including a fine of not less than 500,000 South Sudanese Pounds (approximately 77 US Dollars) per child and a possible three month imprisonment.
The order is to be enforced immediately by the Inspector of Police, the National Security Service, the Criminal Investigation Department and all Payam Directors in Yei River County.
The Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Samuel Henry Malimbo, stated that the measure aims to safeguard the welfare of children and to promote discipline, education and a safer environment throughout the county.
